Pony Studios Opens its Doors in 2019
Bumble & bumble founder Michael Gordon helps launch new West Coast hair destination
(November 14, 2018; OAKLAND, CA)-- Coming in January 2019, Pony Education expands its existing hair education business into Pony Studios, an education center, hair salon, and creative collaboration space for hair businesses, with a brick and mortar location in the trendy Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, CA.
Pony Studios will be the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier independent education center for hair practitioners, offering higher education for hairdressers in a brand new theater-style classroom and digital content production studio. The classroom holds up to 40 students with a multi-camera HD production and A/V setup designed for live streaming demos, classes, and presentations.
“Pony has the potential to be the best education on the West Coast, and possibly the country. Pony could be the new destination,” says Michael Gordon, founder of Bumble & Bumble and Hairstory, producer of Vidal Sassoon: the Movie, and most recently founder of Isle of Roses, a new line of rose hair oil.
Corinna Hernandez is the founder of Pony Studios and Pony Education. A hairdresser for 20 years and an expert educator for over 13 years with the core Bumble & Bumble team in New York, in 2014 she relocated to San Francisco and began Pony Education. She has taught over 1000 stylists across the country, is a veteran of NY Fashion week, and has worked everything from Dior at Paris Fashion Week to Dolce & Gabbana in Milan. Her work has been featured in Elle Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, Refinery29, San Francisco Magazine, and more.
Opening Pony Studios is the realization of Hernandez’ dream to build a collaborative, modern education and salon space in the SF Bay Area. Says Hernandez, “If you love hair, Pony Studios is here for you. I am so excited to open a space dedicated to empowering hair stylists to learn, grow, and achieve their goals. Starting in January, we have classes with amazing talent, as well as a beautiful salon experience for our clients.”
The Pony 2019 calendar includes classes with hair stars Mischa G, Dennis Lanni, Sabrina Michals, Ramona Eschbach, Reese Ewing, Nicholas Roach, Aaron Purcell, and more. Classes go on sale this Monday, November 19th here: http://www.ponyeducation.com/events
Mischa G. is already a fan: “Pony is going to be the West Coast hub for people who are serious about hair. Corinna creates such a supportive and positive learning environment. I can’t wait to come teach my first class there!”
West Coast stylists should mark their calendars for the Pony Studios launch party on March 10th. Attendees will be treated to demos by Michael Gordon, Dennis Lanni, and Ramona Eschbach in the afternoon, followed by an invite-only hairdresser industry mixer. Stylists will also have the opportunity to build out a personalized education plan for 2019 with advice from these iconic industry leaders.
In addition to its role as a style incubator and education center, Pony Studios will be open to the public with a chic salon offering appointments with Corinna herself, plus a curated roster of independent hair businesses. Currently bookable at Pony are:
Eryk Brian Hair: Eryk has spent 30 years cutting, styling, and coloring hair in the salon. He is 14-season veteran at New York, Paris and Milan Fashion Week, and has spent 3 years training and working with Merria Dearman to provide meticulously handmade wigs for clients that include ultra A+ list celebrities, cancer patients, and those with alopecia or general hair loss. His wig atelier at Pony Studios will be a major addition to the Bay Area hair community.
Ashley Rourk: Ashley began her career in 2009 with Aveda in Santa Barbara but her desire for higher education eventually brought her to San Francisco where she specialized in color as well as Redken, Wella, and Vidal Sassoon. In 2014 Ashley began working for Pony Salon education, training with Corinna, and taking classes from some of the best trained stylists and colorists in the industry. Ashley is a talented colorist, known for creating gorgeous shades of natural blonde.
Finally, Pony Studios is committed to being an active part of its community, donating 10% of its profits each month to local nonprofits like Planned Parenthood Northern California, Covenant House California, Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, ACLU, and more. Pony Studios will also host community events, and offer discounted event rental rates for organizations that support equality, social justice, and entrepreneurialism.
